MANILA: The Singapore woman held in the Philippines for allegedly violating child welfare laws has been released from jail, pending further investigations. She can spend the year-end holidays out of prison, but cannot leave the country.

The release order, signed by the chief prosecutor of Rizal Province, directs the jail warden of Jalajala to immediately release Madam Irene Low and 10 others who are facing charges of violating the country's child and youth welfare code.

Madam Low has already been in jail for almost eight days now following her arrest by the police for an alleged baby trafficking operation in Jalajala, Rizal.

The temporary release order also includes the schedule for a formal preliminary investigation that is set for January 6 and January 13 next year.

This means that although Madam Low will be spending Christmas out of jail, she still cannot leave the Philippines while her case is being deliberated on by the prosecutors of Rizal Province. - CNA/vm
