SINGAPORE: A man, in his 40s, was killed when he was crushed by a 40-foot container on Saturday afternoon.

According to the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

SCDF rescuers were called in to the container company in Tuas South Street 5 (number 61) at about 12.30pm.

With the help of the company, SCDF officers managed to extricate the body from the wreckage.

Officers had to use a hydraulic spreader to help release the man.

It is understood he was operating the crane at the time of the accident when the container fell. It landed on the cabin of the container crane, crushing its operator instantly.

Police are investigating the cause of the accident.
