SINGAPORE: In a tough economy, revellers at Nee Soon South rang in 2009 on a budget.
The party even had Guest-of-Honour Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong joining in the festivities.
Mr Lee said: "2009 looks like a challenging year ahead. We are prepared and I think we are ready. I am confident that we will work together to see through the troubles and have a better year in 2010."
Mr Lee was accompanied by Members of Parliament at the event.
Dubbed the countdown party on a budget, tickets were sold at just S$2 to S$5 featuring a line-up of international and local celebrities.
Proceeds from the tickets will be used to support grassroots activities for the residents of Nee Soon South. - CNA/de
