SINGAPORE: Singapore has called Chinese President Hu Jintao's six-point proposal to promote peaceful development of cross-Strait relations "a historic opportunity to definitively end Cross Strait tensions".

In response to media queries, a Foreign Ministry spokesman said this is a very significant development that Singapore welcomes.

He added that this would be good for the Chinese people on both sides of the Straits and for the region as a whole, noting that improved cross-Strait relations will enhance stability and prosperity for all.
