SINGAPORE: Chinatown's Lunar New Year celebrations budget has been cut by 20 per cent.
Nonetheless, organisers have lined up a whole host of activities to usher in the year of the Ox this month.
Shoppers will be in for a treat as there will be nearly 600 festive street stalls – the largest number ever - at the heritage destination.
The entire Chinatown area will come alive at night with lights and decorations from Saturday.
And as part of the celebrations, a mass reunion dinner for about 1,000 elderly and needy will also be held for the first time.
