SINGAPORE: From this year, Singapore students who turn 15 can register for their National Registration Identity Card (NRIC) at school, instead of going down to the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) Building at Kallang Road.
They just need to bring along their school smart cards for identification.
Under a joint initiative by the ICA and the Education Ministry, the former will send mobile registration teams to secondary schools that have made prior arrangements to conduct identity card registration.
Students can collect their identity cards from school after the registration exercise is completed. More than 48,000 students from 167 schools will benefit from this initiative.
Under the law, it is mandatory for Singapore citizens and permanent residents to register for their NRICs when they reach 15 years old.
