SINGAPORE: Singapore's Law and Second Minister for Home Affairs, K Shanmugam, will attend the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas or Global Indian Diaspora Convention in Chennai, India, from January 7 to 9.

The Law Ministry said he is there at the invitation of the Minister of Overseas Indian Affairs, Mr Vayalar Ravi.

The three-day event is a platform for the Indian diaspora to network and co-operate on emerging business opportunities.

The theme of the convention is "Engaging the Diaspora: The Way Forward" and it is expected to attract 1,500 delegates from different parts of the world.

Mr Shanmugam will be accompanied by a business delegation from the Singapore Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. - CNA/vm
