SINGAPORE: The Singapore International Storytelling Festival is back for its fourth year and will feature 21 storytellers from all over the world.
The event, which ends on September 12, will see the likes of writer and musician Randal McGee performing together with Eth-Noh-Tec – a kinetic story theatre group based in San Francisco.
Also included in the festival this year is a new initiative dubbed the "Story Saloon" – an open mike platform where people get to share 5-minute stories about their experiences.
The "Story Saloon" initiative starts on Tuesday and hopes to inspire and generate greater appreciation for storytelling among Singaporeans. It will run once every month for the next six months and will end with the Grand Finals in March 2010.
A new programme aimed at encouraging Singaporeans to write is also in the pipeline.
Acting Minister for Information, Communications and the Arts, RAdm Lui Tuck Yew, said: "WordsWork is a programme aimed at getting Singaporeans to write. We seem to be a nation of eager bloggers, with many opinions to share on life in Singapore.
"Through WordsWork, we would like more residents in Singapore to share their ideas for stories and anecdotes that will be published as books."
