SINGAPORE: One hundred and sixty-eight couples tied the knot at the Botanic Gardens' first mass solemnisation ceremony on Sunday, marking an important day in their lives amidst Singapore's lush greenery.

The event was also held to celebrate Botanic Gardens' 150th anniversary this year.

And Sunday's date, 20/09/2009, made it extra special for the newlyweds.

The couples were joined by Mr Lim Boon Heng, Minister in the Prime Minister's Office, and Mrs Yu-Foo Yee Shoon, Minister of State for Community Development, Youth and Sports.

Reinforcing the values of respect and love for elders, the grandparents and parents of the couples were invited to pen their wishes for the newlyweds.
