SINGAPORE: Actress Joan Chen is in Singapore as the curator of the first-ever Sun Film Festival. Voted as one of the most beautiful women in the world, the screen writer and film director has captivated audiences worldwide.

The award-winning star made her first film at the age of 14. Now 48 with two daughters, it seems that passion for the screen may be rubbing off on her little ones as well.

"Actually, my little one did come to me and say that (she wants to be an actress). But she's seven, so she'll probably go through many different phases of wanting to be many different things. Whatever you are truly passionate about, I'll encourage," said Chen.

While the actress herself has worn several different hats throughout her career, the one thing she has been consistently passionate about is breaking Asian stereotypes within the movie industry.

"I think the only way to present a fuller picture is through Asians from different countries to portray characters that are three-dimensional," she said.

Chen is set to get back on screen soon, although for now, she is determined to keep everyone in suspense as to what exactly her next project will be.

"I'm looking at three or four projects for the winter, but there is nothing I can tell you about. I do get to go back to acting once or twice a year just to keep my feet wet, just to be with my colleagues, and to keep up with what's going on in the industry," she said.
