SINGAPORE: Singapore's only victim in the earthquake in West Sumatra has returned home.

Businessman John Lee, 55, was pulled out alive on Thursday from the rubble of a five-storey hotel after being trapped for 30 hours. He was subsequently hospitalised in Padang.

Back in Singapore, Mr Lee is presently warded at the Singapore General Hospital. His wife said he was calm when they last spoke and he would be getting further examination in the hospital.

"He can stand, so his leg is not fractured. It is probably just numb from being trapped under the rubble for too long. Now, he has to check if any vessels or nerves were damaged," she said.
