Singapore hosts Exercise Bersama Lima

SINGAPORE : Singapore is hosting a joint military exercise with four other nations.

Exercise Bersama Lima will involve the air, land and sea forces of Singapore, Australia, Malaysia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom.

The Singapore Armed Forces' Chief of Defence Force, Lieutenant General Desmond Kuek, officially opened the exercise on Friday.

For the first time, humanitarian and disaster relief operations will be featured.

It will also be the first time the exercise will be directed from the Republic of Singapore Navy's Command and Control Centre at Changi.

Some 240 personnel, 59 aircraft and 20 sea vessels will be involved in the exercise, which will last till October 23. - CNA/ms
