SINGAPORE: Singapore and Thailand have renewed their commitment to boost cooperation under the Civil Service Exchange Programme (CSEP) to ensure the process remains relevant to new challenges arising from a rapidly evolving strategic environment.
This was discussed at the Ninth Coordinating Meeting of the Exchange Programme held in Singapore on Wednesday.
Singapore's Foreign Minister George Yeo and his Thai counterpart Kasit Piromya officiated at the opening ceremony.
Senior officials from both countries participated in the meeting and reviewed the various ongoing and completed CSEP projects over the past year.
They also discussed future areas of collaboration, including continuing the "Singapore-Thailand Leadership Development Programme" and initiating new projects to enhance the employability of disabled people.
Other areas include promoting Occupational Safety Management Systems (OSMS) and enforcement of Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) in Small and Medium Enterprises, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) projects to empower persons with disabilities, as well as IT security development in the public sector; and exchanges on capacity building and skills enhancement as well as experience and knowledge sharing on the destitute and homeless, children, youth and ageing issues.
Officials also exchanged ideas on common challenges such as managing cross-border transmission of infectious disease, strengthening the family against negative influences that put youths at risk and meeting the social economic and healthcare needs of the elderly.
They also tackled the need for multi-agency solutions to work on challenges facing civil services today.
Since its inception in 1998, CSEP has been an important bilateral mechanism in promoting closer contact and cooperation between various agencies of both countries. - CNA/de
