SINGAPORE: The first PAP Community Foundation pre-school to be managed by a private education operator, will open its doors in Bishan next year.
Deputy Prime Minister Wong Kan Seng revealed this at a community event in Bishan on Friday evening.
PCF plans to open ten new childcare centres by early next year and 30 more throughout the year. But the one to be set up at BLK 178 Bishan street 13 will be the first to be managed by a private childcare operator, Etonhouse.
Mr Wong said: "I initiated the idea of setting up a PCF childcare centre in collaboration with a private education provider in Bishan East last year. We did a survey of the needs and found that there is demand for quality pre-school education and childcare services."
The new Hampton pre-school will cater to some 100 children aged between 18 months and six years old. They will be taught a holistic curriculum which includes a second language programme to stimulate the children's love for the Chinese language.
And the fees will cost more than the median monthly fees at other PCF childcare centres which cost S$450 without subsidies. At Hampton, fees are S$680 without childcare subsidies but still lower compared to EtonHouse's charges, which range from S$1,000 to S$1,500.
Chua Thian Poh, vice chairman PCF, Bishan East, said: "This set up is an additional choice for the residents also. So this is just medium-sized school fees that we are charging. I think they have a lot of enrichment programme for the children."
At Hampton, there will be one teacher to 15 children at nursery level, compared to one to ten for EtonHouse. For kindergarten two, it will be one teacher to 25 children, compared to one to 12 for EtonHouse.
Parents can enrol their children from November 16 this year. - CNA/vm
