SHANGHAI: Singapore Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong met Singaporeans living and working in Fujian Province on Tuesday.

Mr Goh said that China has opportunities and potential, and that Singaporeans doing business there are being resourceful in tapping into the market.

He said that besides attracting foreign investments, those doing business in China are also helping the Singapore economy to grow.

Mr Goh said: "The thrust to sustain our growth in future is to boost our GDP by attracting foreign investors and resourceful people into Singapore, to boost our GNP by helping our resourceful Singaporeans to invest outside of Singapore, and of course to employ Singaporeans in Singapore and overseas activities.

"For us to succeed in this, (we need) resourceful people, resourceful foreigners and resourceful Singaporeans. Without their resourcefulness, it is not possible to create the economic activity that we need to sustain Singapore's growth, and give our GDP and GNP further boost in the future."

Mr Goh thanked the overseas Singaporeans for their contribution to Singapore's economy.

However, he added that Singapore being a mature market has to find ways to sustain its growth in the future.
