SINGAPORE : Police have nabbed two snatch theft suspects, and one of them was arrested while he was still in hospital.
The first case involved a 40-year-old man who was picked up in a hospital along Alexandra Road where he was warded.
The suspect is believed to to be involved in a snatch theft along Tiong Bahru Road on October 23.
The victim was a 60-year-old woman. Among the items she lost were S$30 in cash and a handphone.
The suspect faces a possible jail term of up to seven years and caning if convicted.
The second case involved a 22-year-old who is believed to be responsible for a string of snatch thefts around Tampines Street 32 and 33.
The incidents happened between October 20 and 26.
The suspect was nabbed early Tuesday morning when he was spotted loitering at the void deck of block 327 Tampines Street 33.
If convicted, he could be jailed up to seven years and caned.
Separately, a loansharking syndicate was also hit by two island-wide operations conducted between October 27 and 28.
In all, 15 men and women were rounded up.
Preliminary investigations showed that the syndicate had issued out loans to about 40 people amounting to about S$60,000.
Items such as ATM cards, bank slips and bank statements were also seized. - CNA/ms
