SINGAPORE: Home United were made to endure a torrid second half at Yishun Stadium before claiming a 3-2 victory over the Super Reds on Wednesday evening.
The Protectors had raced to a two-goal lead inside half an hour thanks to Kengne Ludovick's brace, before Peres de Oliveira converted a penalty on the stroke of half-time conceded by Kim Shin Yui.
But the Super Reds, reduced to 10 men following Kim's ejection, roared back into the game in the second half as Seo Su Jong and Choi Dong Soo scored within two minutes of each other to reduce the deficit to one goal.
Tempers then flared in an open, bitterly-fought contest, but despite Valery Hiek's late dismissal for collecting two yellow cards, the Protectors held on to leapfrog the Koreans into third place.
In another match, a Yang Mu goal one minute before the half-time break condemned Geylang United to a 0-1 defeat to the Young Lions at Bedok Stadium.
The result means the Eagles have not won a match at home since August 30, when they defeated Home United 2-1 in the RHB Singapore Cup quarter-finals.
Mike Wong's side had been hoping to use their end-of-season run-in as preparation for the Cup final, but Chinese striker Yang thwarted their plans with his fourth goal of the season.
Geylang tried to pile the pressure on the visitors, but were ultimately unable to find a way past Young Lions goalkeeper Hyrulnizam Juma'at. - S.League.com
