SINGAPORE: The inaugural Singapore Experience Awards will recognise excellent product and service delivery for customers. The 28 awards will replace three annual awards organised by the Singapore Tourism Board.
Theresa Shui, a 21-year-old concierge at Swissôtel the Stamford, was taken by surprise for being nominated. She is a finalist for best customer service in the hotel category.
"One of my passions is to be able to help my guests, more than just the regular kind of things - to really take care of them where... you can really reach into their hearts and ... (give them) more than what they really need at the end of the day," said Shui.
The business diploma graduate was among the finalists taking part in 28 categories which span across industries such as hospitality, attractions and retail.
VivoCity is one of the nominees for the best shopping experience category.
"It's very important to surprise them (shoppers). So when they come into a shopping centre, first they must like the feel of it - they get what they want instead of what they need. ... You have to surprise them, you have to give them something that is different," said Chang Yeng Cheong, general manager, VivoCity.
And providing that experience is what the Singapore Tourism Board hopes will help differentiate the Singapore experience from other destinations.
"We believe that experience is so important these days because that is what is going to get people coming back to a restaurant or to a shopping centre. And that is also what is going to get visitors coming back to Singapore as well," said Neeta Lachmandas, executive director, Capability Development, Singapore Tourism Board.
The awards will be given out on November 9 by President S R Nathan.
