SINGAPORE: The third day of "Exercise Deep Sabre II" ended on Thursday afternoon, at the Changi Command and Control Centre.
The multi-lateral exercise aims to enhance security measures against the spread of weapons of mass destruction.
As part of the Proliferation Security Initiative (PSI), which is an agreement in place to enhance international cooperation for preventing the spread of dangerous weapons like nuclear arms, local agencies carried out a port search demonstration where a vessel suspected of carrying weapons of mass destruction was diverted back to shore.
The agencies involved were Immigration & Checkpoints Authority, Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore, Singapore Armed Forces, Singapore Civil Defence Force, Singapore Police Force and Singapore Customs.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence Teo Chee Hean was present to officiate at the event. He said in his opening address on Tuesday that the exercise aims to enhance national and international inter-agency coordination.
The exercise involves some 2,000 personnel from Singapore, Europe, United States and the Middle East.
This is the second time that Singapore is hosting the exercise.
