SINGAPORE: According to recent figures, motorcyclists and their pillion riders make up 50 percent of those who die from traffic accidents each year in Singapore.

In the first nine months of this year, 124 people died on the roads - with 63 of them being motorcyclists and pillion riders.

With these grim figures in mind, the Bukit Batok Driving Centre's "Ride Safe" campaign will continue to focus on safety for motorcyclists.

Currently into its third year, the campaign is being carried out together with the Traffic Police. It was launched on Saturday with the tagline - "Make it Home Safely".

The campaign will also reach out to companies with large number of motorcyclists, as well as motorcycle clubs.

Some 360 participants are expected to take part where the emphasis will be on good riding techniques and defensive riding.
