SINGAPORE: The first batch of students from four of Singapore's Junior Sports Academies (JSAs) has graduated.
After two years of hard work, 144 students graduated on Saturday. Some have already represented Singapore at regional and international competitions.
The four JSAs were set up in 2008 to supplement school sports programmes and give more opportunities for those with talent. Following the setting up of the academies last year, another eight have been established this year.
To give an added boost, the Ministry of Education (MOE) has developed the Athletes Profiling and Tracking System (APTS) to track and study the long-term physical and sporting development of these students into adult athletes.
The information will help athletes in setting short- and long-term goals for training. MOE sports officials can then offer sporting advice and guidance when the need arises.
