SINGAPORE: A member of the six-man team from the opposition Singapore Democratic Alliance (SDA) which contested the Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC in the 2006 General Election, Ishak Haroun, has died.

The 46-year-old real estate agent had been admitted into Changi General Hospital on October 22.

His niece, Noor Wahidah Hairon Hanwar, told MediaCorp he was suffering from high blood pressure and went into a coma shortly after. He died on Tuesday night of heart failure.

Mr Ishak left behind his wife, three sons and a daughter.

In the last electoral contest, the SDA team, which was made up of several first-timers, lost to the People's Action Party (PAP) team led by Defence Minister Teo Chee Hean.

The PAP won 68.7 per cent of the valid votes.
