SINGAPORE : More community gardens are blooming across Singapore.

National Parks (NParks) said there are currently 350 gardening groups islandwide - a significant increase since the "Community In Bloom" programme was started four years ago.

The programme aims to promote a gardening culture among Singaporeans by encouraging and facilitating gardening efforts. People from diverse backgrounds also come forward to share experiences and tips on gardening.

NParks is also stepping up efforts to encourage more community bonding through gardening, including appointing new ambassadors to spread the message.

This is the second time NParks is appointing Community In Bloom ambassadors to help promote the gardening culture.

"We have concrete plans on how we can encourage the growth of the movement. We are trying to encourage all the groups to interact with each other. That will help to speed up the process of growing the network further," said Mohamad Azmi Shahbudin, section head of Projects-Community In Bloom, Streetscape Division, NParks. - CNA /ls
