SINGAPORE: A Singapore-China-Korean production has become the first film to receive support under the International Film Fund.

The fund, which will invest up to five million dollars per film, was launched by the Media Development Authority at the Cannes Film Festival this year.

South Korean Pil Gam-Sung will direct "Neon Sign".

The film will be produced by Bang Productions (Singapore) and Nabi Pictures of Korea.

The comedic road movie centres on a highly sought- after Korean pop idol who flees to China to escape paparazzi following scandals at home.

"Neon Sign" is set in China's picturesque Yunnan province. It is scheduled for release in 2011.

MDA chief executive officer, Christopher Chia, said the tripartite collaboration represents the growing synergies among Asian countries and the ability to tell Asian stories for an international audience.
