SINGAPORE: With Singapore investing heavily in its tertiary sector, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said that the aim is to ensure a quality education for those who cannot go overseas.
He was speaking at a dinner in Singapore to mark the 800th anniversary of his alma mater, Cambridge University.
Mr Lee said Singapore's future depends on its talent, who study at the universities here and in the UK, US and China.
Effort is also being made for students in Singapore to spend time on exchange programmes abroad, and Mr Lee's message for them is: "See the world, measure yourself against the best, and gain confidence that you are up to scratch and you can hold you own."
Prime Minister Lee also spoke about Singapore's upcoming fourth university.
"The new university of technology and design is a project for the 21st century - to build a new university that would give many more of our students an outstanding education in technology and design, and reflect the spirit of our society, our people. Singapore relies on all of that to lead and deliver our continued transformation and progress," said Mr Lee.
