SINGAPORE : TTM Samut Sakhon clinched third place in the RHB Singapore Cup 2009 after they overcame Albirex Niigata (Singapore) 4-3 on penalties at Jalan Besar Stadium on Saturday evening.

The Thai side had taken the lead 20 minutes into the match, when striker Thanongsak Promdad fired the ball into the Albirex net off goalkeeper Yoshito Matsushita from a tight angle on the right.

They remained largely in control for the remainder of the encounter, only for the White Swans to equalize one minute from the end after Kunihiro Honda's direct free kick was deflected home.

But the match ended in Samut Sakhon's favour nonetheless, after Kazuki Yoshino and Akira Takase fluffed their lines from the penalty spot in the shootout that ensued. - sleague
