SINGAPORE: Jurong West now has an integrated learning, social and recreational hub.

The Frontier Community Place officially opened on Sunday, with Minister for Trade and Industry and Member of Parliament (MP) for West Coast GRC, Lim Hng Kiang, as the guest of honour.

The hub houses the Frontier Community Club, Jurong West Public Library and Jurong Medical Centre.

Host MP and Adviser to Pioneer Grassroots Organisations Cedric Foo said residents have been enjoying the three facilities for the past three years.

However, the expanded facilities, including extensions, have now been completed and are fully operational, with their equipment installed and tested.

He added that all the activities at the 19,000-square-metre building are now in full swing, including the belly-dancing troupe and Tamil kindergarten classes.

Mr Foo said: "I think the place has stabilised now, it's not just the buildings or the features of the building, but you can see the bonding among the residents, among the grassroots leaders themselves making this place happen."

The integrated concept has been proven to increase readership at the library. It has also resulted in a higher participation rate for community centre courses.

The S$25 million Community Place will reach out to more than 65,000 residents, including permanent residents and new citizens in Pioneer Division.
