SINGAPORE: An ambulance crew responding to a call was assaulted by a man they tried to help.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it received an ambulance call on a case at Block 685C Jurong West Central 1 at about 2.30am on Sunday.

Upon arrival at the flat, the SCDF said the man was aggressive and verbally abusive towards the paramedics.

He then clawed one of them, resulting in a four-centimetre cut on the neck of a paramedic. The man went on to kick the ambulance driver and another medic.

Relatives of the man, who were at scene, managed to restrain him from further attacks.

SCDF said the man locked himself in the flat after the incident, prompting firefighters to set up a life pack and rescue net as a precautionary measure.

The man was later apprehended by the police. SCDF said anyone found guilty of assaulting public servants could be jailed up to four years and fined. - CNA/de
