SINGAPORE: The Ministry of Health (MOH) will be conducting an islandwide National Health Survey from March to June next year.

This is to measure the health status of Singaporeans in relation to major health problems such as diabetes, high blood pressure and obesity.

Prior to that, the ministry will be conducting a household-listing exercise this month and in December to select participants for the survey.

The appointed research company will visit, at random, some 17,000 households to collect basic information. All selected households will receive a letter from the ministry before this.

MOH added that the survey will include a nutrition study to determine the dietary practices and nutrient intake of Singaporeans.

All interviewers from the research company will wear an identification tag bearing the ministry's official stamp. They will also carry a letter of authorisation from MOH.

Members of the public may contact the ministry at 6325-9497 or 6325-9085 to verify the identity of the interviewer or to clarify any matter pertaining to the survey.

Findings from the survey will be used in the planning and evaluation of health policies and programmes.

MOH has assured the public that information gathered during the interviews will be kept confidential.

Details of the exercise can be obtained at the ministry's
website or through the hotline 1800-225-4122.
