SINGAPORE: Indonesia's West Java province is still recovering from a powerful earthquake that stuck two months ago.

The 7.3 magnitude quake killed about 70 people, and schools were among the many buildings damaged.

While waiting for reconstruction, Singapore aid organisation Mercy Relief has set up four tents as temporary classrooms.

The tents are insulated, protecting students against hot weather and heavy rain. Each is large enough to hold a classroom of 40.

The tents have benefited children at four schools in Java's Pangalengan district.

Julia Bee Abdul Latif, programme manager of Mercy Relief, said: "(These tents) serves as a temporary solution while the reconstruction of schools take place. At the same time, they can also be kept. So in case of another emergency or disaster, they can use the tents again."
