SINGAPORE: The first kidney donor who applied to the National Kidney Foundation for reimbursement has undergone a transplant procedure. The operation took place at the National University Hospital on Monday morning.
The hospital is unable to disclose more details about the donor due to patient confidentiality. But what is known is that the recipient is the donor's wife, who has been undergoing dialysis.
The hospital said the operations for both donor and recipient took about two and a half hours each. Both are said to be in stable condition.
Doctors will be closely monitoring their condition over the next few days.
The hospital's transplant ethics committee gave the living donor transplant the go-ahead last month.
And this month, the NKF started a S$10 million fund to help donors offset post-transplant medical costs.
