SINGAPORE : A record 1,505 students received help with their education expenses this year, under the Sembcorp Marine's School Book Assistance Grant.

The S$300,000 grant is for low-income families to defray costs for textbooks, uniforms and stationery items.

A total of 1,492 students received the grant last year.

On top of that, the company's employees helped raise another S$50,000 through a charity walk at Admiralty Park on Saturday morning.

The proceeds will be used to help children in the Yishun and Boon Lay community.

Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports, Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, presented the grants to the children. - CNA /ls
