SINGAPORE : Residents in Jalan Besar can expect more programmes to be rolled out in support of active ageing.

This comes with the official launch of the constituency's Wellness Hub.

Besides a customised training regimen for the elderly to keep fit and improve their flexibility, the hub also provides information on other options to help them stay active.

Under the Jalan Besar Wellness Programme, senior citizens can take up activities like line dancing, balloon sculpturing and community drumming as well.

And the initiative does not only look after their health and fitness.

Lim Boon Heng, Minister in the Prime Minister's Office and Minister-in-charge of ageing issues, said: "It encourages seniors to join social interest groups for their social and emotional well-being.

"So it is not just the physical well-being that is important, it is also the emotional well-being of our seniors that we have to look after." - CNA/ms
