Heartlanders lend their support to "We Are One" charity drive

SINGAPORE : The "We Are One" charity drive is reaching out to the heartlands.

At the opening of the South West District's new community centre, Gek Poh Ville CC, the young and curious chipped in to help their fellow Singaporeans.

This is the first Community Development Council to lend a hand to the donation drive, which is organised by MediaCorp, CapitaLand and LEGO Singapore.

About 800 heartlanders turned up on Sunday morning including the mayor.

Dr Amy Khor, mayor, South West District, said: "We also want to encourage the more able among us to do their part to help the less able, such as those who have been affected by the recent economic downturn to get back on their feet and become self-reliant again." - CNA/ms
