SINGAPORE: Formula One started the ball rolling and now more are hoping to drive up interest in the motor sports industry.

The latest is Singaporean Melvin Choo, who will be competing in the entire season of the Japanese Super GT race in 2010.

Choo with his Mosler drive, competed in two races this year, but is now going into over-drive. He is setting up an entire team and building another Mosler car from scratch, to fly the Singapore flag high in Japan. The entire venture costs more than US$5 million.

The 39-year old's team will be the first all-foreign entry in the Super GT series, which has nine rounds - eight in Japan and one in Sepang, Malaysia.

The 2010 season starts in March and Choo plans to bring the race to Singapore, when the Changi permanent track is built by end-2011.

He said: "I have been appointed as the agent and negotiator for the Super GT for the permanent circuit in Singapore.

"Part of my job is to make sure that we are in partnership with the right tenderers, number one, and number two is try to negotiate the best possible deal for Super GT if the tenderers were to win the tender."
