SINGAPORE: The wife of a man, who was reimbursed for donating one of his kidneys to her, was discharged on Monday.
The man was the first kidney donor who applied to the National Kidney Foundation (NKF) for reimbursement. His wife had been undergoing dialysis before the kidney transplant.
National University Hospital, where the procedure was carried out, said in a statement that the patient's kidney is functioning normally and the hospital's doctors will continue to monitor her regularly over the next few months.
The patient's husband was discharged last week.
NKF has created a S$10 million fund to help donors offset post-transplant medical costs. The scheme kicked in on November 1.
