SINGAPORE: The Restroom Association of Singapore is far from reaching the target it has set for public toilet cleanliness.
When it launched the LOO Campaign last year, it aimed to have 70 per cent of public toilets here achieve a three-star rating by 2010.
However, the association's president, Tan Puay Hoon, said on Thursday that only 2 per cent of public loos have presently achieved the standard.
To encourage those that have put in much effort in maintaining clean public toilets, she announced that the association's inaugural LOO Awards will be given to 15 individuals and organisations.
The association said it received 24 award nominations, and food court operator Koufu is among the organisations that will be honoured for consistently attaining high standards of restroom cleanliness.
Other recipients include the Singapore Zoo's Rainforest Kidzworld, Aljunied Town Council, Ang Mo Kio-Yio Chu Kang Town Council, Holy Innocents' Primary School, Northland Primary School and Zhenghua Primary School.
The awards will be given out on December 2 during the World Toilet Summit & Expo.
