SINGAPORE: Foreign Minister George Yeo arrived in Manila on Thursday afternoon for a four-day official visit at the invitation of Foreign Secretary Alberto Romulo.
During his visit, Mr Yeo will call on President Gloria Arroyo and be hosted to a meal by Mr Romulo.
Singapore's Foreign Ministry said Mr Yeo's official visit affirms Singapore's close bilateral relations with the Philippines, as 2009 marks the 40th anniversary of the establishment of Singapore-Philippines bilateral ties.
In this regard, Mr Yeo and Mr Romulo will attend a cultural concert on November 21 to commemorate the anniversary.
In conjunction with the bilateral visit, Mr Yeo will also attend the 10th World Chinese Entrepreneurs Convention (WCEC) as a keynote speaker. He will receive the WCEC flag on behalf of Singapore, which will be hosting the 11th WCEC in 2011.
Singapore's Foreign Ministry added that at the start of his visit on Thursday, Mr Yeo laid a wreath at the Rizal Memorial Park that honours Philippine national hero Jose Rizal.
Later in the day, he met Senator Manuel Villar and Senator Benigno Aquino.
