SINGAPORE: There are no reports of any Singaporean affected by the sinking of a ferry off Indonesia's Sumatra island on Sunday, says Singapore's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA).

The 147-tonne Indonesian ferry, Dumai Express, was sailing from Batam island to Pekanbaru when it went down in high seas at around 10:00am Indonesian time (0300 GMT) off Karimun island near Singapore.

Singapore's MFA and its missions in Jakarta and Batam are closely monitoring the situation.

Those who require consular assistance may contact the MFA duty office at +65 6379 8800 or 6379 8855.

They can also call MFA's mission in Batam at +62 778470070 or +62 81213247797.
