SINGAPORE: The National University Hospital's Paediatric Renal Replacement Programme celebrated its 20th anniversary on Tuesday.
The programme helps young kidney patients manage their medical condition.
Under the programme, the Hospital's Children's Kidney Centre (CKC) sees some 3,000 youths with kidney problems annually.
It also provides them with support going into adulthood.
Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean said: "CKC launched the Baxter-CMI-NUH Employment & Livelihood Endowment Fund or BELIEF in 2007 to help dialysis and transplant patients gain employment once they complete their education. "
I am happy to note that through these efforts, 87 per cent of the patients are either in school or gainfully employed." - CNA/vm
