SINGAPORE: Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong who is now in Laos for an official visit called on the country's President Choummaly Sayasone on Wednesday afternoon.

Both leaders reaffirmed their close bilateral relations. In particular, Mr Choummaly expressed appreciation for Singapore's technical help.

Mr Goh said Singapore will continue to assist Laos, especially in the areas of capacity building and human resource development.

Earlier, Mr Goh met Mr Somsavat Lengsavad, Laos' Standing Deputy Prime Minster. They discussed economic development in Laos, and how the country could benefit from opportunities created by ASEAN.

Mr Somsavat is also head of the national committee responsible for drafting Laos' seventh five-year National Development Plan.

He hopes Laos could learn from Singapore's experience in education, tourism promotion and attracting foreign investment. Mr Goh replied, saying Singapore would share its experience with Laos. - CNA/vm
