SINGAPORE: 47 per cent of Singaporeans feel that people with disabilities are dependent on others and need help all the time, according to the latest survey commissioned by the Society for the Physically Disabled (SPD).
This is a mere seven per cent drop from the last survey it did in 2004, which found that 54 per cent of respondents think that people with disabilities were dependent and had poor self-esteem.
The society hopes to help change this perception and increase awareness of people with disabilities through its second charity TV show next month which will see MediaCorp artistes like Zoe Tay teaming up with people with disabilities to create artworks.
The SPD Charity show will be aired on Channel U at 7:30pm on December 6.
SPD has seen a 30 per cent drop in donations recently and it hopes to raise S$2.8 million through the show. - CNA/vm
