SINGAPORE: A man fell from the second storey of Block 205, Serangoon Central while escaping a fire in his unit on Friday afternoon.

The fire started in the bedroom at about 12.50pm and soon spread to the living room, destroying contents in both rooms.

Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) officers arrived within minutes and extinguished the fire.

Eyewitnesses told MediaCorp they saw a middle-aged man climbing out of the kitchen window to escape the fire.

He ignored warning from neighbours and proceeded to lie down on bamboo poles used to hang-dry clothes.

The poles could not hold his weight and he plunged to the ground.

Paramedics found him conscious with some injuries and rushed him to Tan Tock Seng Hospital.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
