SINGAPORE: Foreign Affairs Minister George Yeo has called on Commonwealth countries to participate in the inaugural 2010 Youth Olympic Games in Singapore.

Mr Yeo made the call in the Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, where he is attending the Commonwealth Foreign Ministers Meeting.

Mr Yeo briefed the ministers and encouraged their countries to participate in the various sports, cultural and educational programmes of the YOG.

The Singapore minister also met his counterparts from St Lucia, Kenya and Nigeria.

Mr Yeo and Minister Rufus Bousquet of St Lucia discussed developments in the Caribbean and Asia.

Mr Yeo also extended an invitation to Mr Bousquet to visit Singapore next year along with other foreign ministers of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States.

Minister Moses Wetangula of Kenya briefed Mr Yeo on developments in Africa and invited Singapore companies to explore business and investment opportunities in Kenya.

They also discussed the visit of Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga to Singapore early next year.

In Mr Yeo's meeting with Nigeria's Ojo Maduekwe, both men agreed to build on the good bilateral relations by increasing cooperation on capacity building in Nigeria.
