SINGAPORE : Volunteers from non-profit organisation CityCare started dismantling the island of Singapore made of Lego bricks on Tuesday.

They worked through the night, and had to take apart more than 100,000 bricks, which were assembled as part of the "We Are One" community service project.

The CityCare volunteers spent about five hours packing the bricks into over 2,300 boxes.

The group brings businesses and community groups together with an aim to effect positive change in society.

The corporate social responsibility project by CapitaLand, LEGO Singapore and MediaCorp raised some S$300,000 for charity.

Members of the public and companies can still make donations via http://www.weareone.sg for the next two weeks.

As for the bricks, they will be given to various charities to spread some cheer to children this festive season.

Wendy Lim, project manager, CityCare, said: "CityCare is tasked to dismantle all the Lego bricks and then, we pack them all into boxes and all the boxes we will send them out to the different children's homes." - CNA/ms
