SINGAPORE : Falls at the workplace made up the highest number of fatalities in Singapore in the last 10 years.
Various measures implemented have cut that number by some 60 per cent to 19 cases in 2008. But a new three-pronged programme hopes to reduce that number even further.
The programme was launched by the National Work at Height (WAH) Safety Taskforce on Wednesday. It involves establishing safety guidelines like coming up with a new code of practice for Working Safely at Height.
The taskforce will also be promoting the benefits of workplace safety and implement tighter safety regulations.
It is all part of the plan to further reduce the number of fatal falls over the next decade.
Also on the cards are Fall Protection Plans at all worksites and shipyards by 2012, and all workplaces by 2015.
The National WAH Taskforce has worked with the Workplace Safety and Health Council and the Manpower Ministry to analyse the contributing factors for the 126 WAH incidents over the years.
Their findings have been published in a Safety Analysis and Recommendation Report on Work at Height. - CNA/ms
