SINGAPORE: The Society for the Physically Disabled (SPD) Charity Show, held at the MediaCorp TV Theatre on Sunday evening, raised nearly S$3.1 million. The target was S$2.8 million.
The show, aired live on MediaCorp's Channel U, saw celebrities and people with disabilities coming together to perform. It also highlighted the programmes and services of the SPD, and the potential of its members.
MediaCorp artists, like Zoe Tay and Kym Ng, created artworks during the show, and Bryan Wong's painting fetched S$28,888 for the society.
Major donations of over S$100,000 also poured in during the show. The money is a boost for the society, which recently saw a 30 per cent drop in donations.
SPD said funds raised from the show will help more than 2,500 people with disabilities. The society also said the amount raised has contributed significantly to its overall fundraising target of S$4.6 million for the year.
The telepoll lines for donation will be open till December 13. Donations of S$6, S$15, S$38 and S$100 can be pledged by calling the following numbers:
