SINGAPORE : NTUC FairPrice saw a 50 per cent increase in the number of people turning up for its "Used Textbook Project" this year.

A queue had formed at Yio Chu Kang Secondary School on Monday morning, long before doors opened for the annual event.

The school was one of six collection points.

The books were left over from Saturday's book collection for needy students.

A total of 17,400 people came for the "Used Textbook Project" over the two days.

NTUC FairPrice received over 200,000 used textbooks this year, 30 per cent more than last year. About 70 per cent of them were snapped up. - CNA/ms
