SINGAPORE : This is the season to care and share, but for one charity group which helps the needy, donations are not coming fast enough for its 28,982 beneficiaries.
The Boys' Brigade, which manages the Sharity Gift Box project - one of Singapore's longest-running donation drives - has met only 15 per cent of its target.
Volunteers have been busy packing gift bags containing food items which will be sent to over 28,000 needy Singaporeans under the charity drive.
The youngest volunteer, Seah Shing Hao, said: "I think there are a lot of needy people out there who need our help, and maybe they have no relatives... or any siblings, so they will need all these hampers to help them with their daily life."
With two more weeks to go before the project wraps up, the organiser said it needs more Singaporeans to chip in to help fulfil the Christmas wishes of the less fortunate.
Desmond Koh, executive director, The Boys' Brigade, said: "So far, we have collected up about 15 per cent of our target. We would appeal to the public to help us a little bit in terms of the halal canned food; we are a bit short on halal canned food as well as cooking oil."
