SINGAPORE : Students from Republic Polytechnic are cooking up a storm, and while their dishes may seem ordinary, they include some very unusual ingredients.
For example, their seafood pasta includes wolfberries, a traditional Chinese medicinal herb, while their ice cream is infused with Indonesian Jamu herb, commonly used to boost stamina and promote beauty.
These dishes were showcased at the polytechnic's Complementary and Alternative Medicine Technology Seminar on Wednesday.
Experts said research on such "functional foods" is part of a global lifestyle trend.
Professor Elizabeth Williamson, director, Practice & Pharmacy, University of Reading, said: "Medicine is the whole lifestyle. So it is not only food, it is also exercise and things like that. Eastern practices are also becoming very popular, they are very fashionable as well." - CNA/ms
